Runners Everywhere

A friend of mine spotted this boat when she was out fishing and sent a picture to me (you may need to zoom in to read it):

My butt was truly kicked in Friday with that tough run (followed by about 4 hours of walking), so I shouldn’t be surprised that my mid-afternoon 20 mile run was a tough slog in the 85 degree heat. My legs were just beat. At least my stomach wasn’t bothering me. But I was also slower than last week.

I’ve got only 6 weeks until my race, so these next few weeks will be pretty tough. I’m really hoping the temperatures will start going down, although anything is possible for race day.

  1. Yay for no tummy trouble, but I also find it interesting. I would think the heat would have triggered it… okay, it triggers mine. ๐Ÿ™‚ Fall is coming.

  2. Things have been cool here this summer, but that is no guarantee … If I recall correctly last year was a bit warm but pretty decent (65 or so?), year before was ‘medical tent hot’ (I saw several runners down), 2012 was perfect (start 40, end <60), and 2011 was cold and rainy (~35 whole time). I will be hoping for awesome weather for you and all the folks I know who are running (I probably know 40 or so between half and full ๐Ÿ™‚ )

      • Well – my best marathon time (not best race ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) was that year, it was a matter of smart pacing and double-hydrating at every stop. I saw two ambulances and was stopped by police who were looking for a runner down … if you didn’t prepare it was brutal. So like anything … the thing is to prepare. Oh – and whenI finished it was 88 and humid … ugh. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I’m at the point where I’m just looking forward to my 2015 races to be over too! Training in the heat is brutal! I’ve had to wake up before 5am to get my long runs in on the weekends, otherwise it’s just too hot where I am, and the dreadmill is SO not happening for a 20 mile training run. Your taper is just around the corner! ๐Ÿ™‚

It is still in the upper 80’s here. And the humidity is bad. I know that runners are out there every day or weekend. Tough on the body though. One friend regularly does 20 miles in this heat. Better than I.
