Eating My Way Through New Orleans

Holy food heaven!

I’m so glad to be done with my race because now I can EAT. We had muffuletta yesterday at Central Market, redfish and shrimp remoulade with fried green tomatoes for dinner, sweet potato and black bean pro’ boy coming up next.

I’m pretty floored by the open carry drink policy here. If I were actively drinking, I’d be in major trouble. I thought about going to an AA meeting, not because I feel tempted but because I thought it would be interesting. Not really the right reason to go.

I PR’d my half marathon by over 2 minutes. My stomach wasn’t great (again –sick of this) so I missed my A goal by 3 minutes. Frustrating, but I have the NYC half in 6 weeks to try again. I may attempt training with a full stomach to see if purposely making myself feel unwell when running will help me. Getting desperate. Still, I finished in the top 5% for my age group and top 12% overall. KONGOS played at the post race concert, and I had fun.

Sounds like you are having a blast, and I would definitely have a field day eating my way through NOLA. Congrats on your PR… that’s fantastic!
I hope you can get your stomach issues under control, because it looks like it’s going to be an amazing year for you! Congrats.

  2. Nice job on the PR but I totally understand being frustrated with stomach problems. I hope you can figure it out!

I would love to eat my way through New Orleans one day. We have a nice restaurant around here that serves creole food and I want to eat there everyday. 🙂 Enjoy your time there!

  3. Congratulations on the PR. Tried to come up with something witty about the stomach issue but couldn’t, something like that just plain sucks. Hope you get it figured out.

Sounds like you are loving New Orleans. How awesome about your PR, especially with stomach issues! Great job! My husband and I ran the Rock ‘n Roll Half there last year and absolutely loved the food and music. Enjoy!

  5. Congrats! So glad you got to eat thru NOLA. I keep telling people it’s the best food in the country! I had so many friends running this race, wish I was, but I’ll settle for Key West, ha!

    • I think we had better weather in NOLA than you did in Key West.

I’m still eating my way through the city. I’m gonna have to work off some weight gain when I get home. Bread pudding on every dessert menu! I have no choice except gluttony!

Nice job on the run. Southern food is great. You will have to think about doing the Kiawah marathon down here. Lots of good food and cleaner streets in old Charleston.
I go to Al-Anon meetings when I am out of town. Some are good, some are not so healthy but I learn something no matter what.

Have your say
