I ran 20 miles for the first time today. It was split up — 14 miles outside with the running group followed by 6 on the treadmill at the Y. Average pace was 9:25, with the faster paces on the treadmill — yay negative split!

Running with the group was nice, but because I kept pace with the other marathoners, we didn’t get quite as fast as I’d normally run, so I was really cold most of the workout. It was between 5-15 degrees outside.

After the treadmill, I did an hour of yoga. I struggled a little with one pose that needed my abs and legs to cooperate, but later I did a decent headstand. I was careful not to push too much and the stretches felt good after all the miles.

Now I am tired. Like I can’t even bother getting off the sofa to get a snack even though I am hungry. I even think there are donuts somewhere calling my name, but no go. My husband is bringing dinner home in an hour or so. Good thing because I’m not sure this backside is leaving the cosy spot I’ve settled into.

My weekly mileage was 52 for this week, my birthday week. Not bad for a 44-year-old old dame. Three weeks to my first marathon. I might actually finish. πŸ˜‰

Now, will someone feed me grapes or something? Pretty please?

That is such a tough dilemma when in that state – food or rest – which one will take precedence. Sometimes I have to battle between food, shower or sleep. πŸ™‚ Hope the rest was good as the run. πŸ™‚

Glad your training is going so well. It’s a good kind of tired when you know you’ve pushed your body to its max. Hope you recover quick!

  3. I would feed you grapes and fan you with a feather if I was there. I draw the line at washing your feet though! You’re my hero….20 miles! πŸ˜‰

Have your say
